Sitting here on New Years Day drinking coffee and mulling the goals for 2014. I will focus mostly on health goals in this post, but doing well financially, at work, and with the family are also very important and will benefit my health goals as well. 2013 is now behind me and I will keep it there. The only time I will reference it will be for a comparison as to where I was. My biggest goal is to be like 2012...just killed it that year. Weight was 150's, lots of PR's, and just some great mileage. So here is a list of goals:
- 38.7 miles/week
-2014 miles in 2014
- 155 lbs
- 12% BF
- 1 marathon
-4 Halfs
- 1 race per/month

2014
Looking over my 2013 running log, one could get quite
depressed. Miles are scattered throughout with some stretches, like October, nonexistent.
Have I had such poor training since starting in September 2008? No, but I have
had stretches of poor or nonexistent training, though not as long as 2013. My
weight has ballooned where just having pictures taken of me during the Holiday’s
is a painful reminder of forgotten training. I have had a couple of good weeks,
but that’s pretty easy when vacation looms. The hardest part is staying
motivated during the year when work gets busy and life happens. Getting up at
5am and either getting on the treadmill or better yet donning the headlamp and
running outside, is a serious chore. Not something to look forward to. So how
did I have 5 years of solid running and weight loss? That is the question I
need to answer if I plan to keep motivated for 2014.

Finally 50!
So it's been since June 24th 2012 since I had a 50 mile week. Running has been good....motivation high, and body is holding up to the heat the mileage. Not to mention, lots of stress with a new house purchase and OBX vacation coming up. Need to keep at it and continue to hit 50 miles.

Great June!
Finished the month of June with 188.49 miles....pretty darn good. Feeling it this morning, lower back and legs are sore. Pushing morning run back to this afternoon. Need to keep this going into July.

Nice week
Had some really nice runs this week....a few longer runs that I haven't be doing for some time. Ran a little faster paces too as I'm starting to get in better shape. Still need to drop lbs., but that'll come. Need consistency.....keep pounding out the miles and don't allow work to make me miss runs. The weather has been awesome to run this week....cooler, sunny. But the rain is here for the next few days so I'll probably hit the mill tomorrow since the rain is supposed to be really heavy.

Am I back?
The last 2 weeks are right around 25 miles/week....that's terrific miles for me in 2013. I've had a horrible year of running, just no motivation. Weight has ballooned to 190 and bodyfat is just as bad. Going to plan early morning runs this week to make sure they get done so I can start picking up the pace. Maybe, just maybe, I'll blog on a more regular basis.

Been almost 2 months since my last post. Ironically, it was a post about feeling great...and hoping it stayed that way. It actually did for a few more weeks...best Spring racing season of my life, but the past 6 weeks have been hell. I just flat out burned out! 11-12 hour workdays, early morning runs, dieting....and do the whole thing again the next day. Weight was down....169.6 as of June 24th. This morning....180.5. Wow, disappointing and disgusting. I just wish I wouldn't go through these spells of self pity and loathing. This mornings run (a short 4 miler) felt really good and easy, but tomorrow it gets harder and then harder and then harder. I need to keep it rolling.
